I'm making a post before the clock strikes 12:00. It may not be the best post but dammit I'm keeping my promise.
I've picked back up a habit worse than smoking. I bought Burning Crusade and I'm playing World of Warcraft again. With everything that's going on at work it's been a nice way to relax at night and unwind.
Here's to hoping it doesn't become all consuming. I seemed to balance it with everything else last time so I'm not too worried.
For the non game-nerds among you who read the blog my mom asked tonight what the hardest alcohol I drink is. I told her isopropyl. She didn't think that was funny.

You Can't Take The Sky From Me
The other night a friend and I watched one of the best episodes of the best show ever produced. It was "Out of Gas", an episode of Firefly where Mal sends everyone else off the ship in shuttles to survive a bit longer while he attempts to fix the engine and get life support working again.
The episode is scenes of Mal injured and moving through the ship cut with flashbacks of the crew as they were first meeting and getting together. It culminates with him near death as he finally fixes the ship and passes out just before he can call the shuttles back. He then wakes up in the infirmary to the crew admitting they came back against his orders without hearing the call, a decision that saved his life.
You get sucked into Mal's lonely fight to fix the ship among the backstory and happier times shown in the flashbacks, and his eventual survival due to concerned friends.
Whedon is an amazing writer and does an incredible job at making interesting characters that are entertaining to watch interact with one another. Even if you don't like Sci-Fi OR Westerns you should still give it a shot.

"Brandon Flowers!"
There was this guy that always showed up at parties, mostly kept to himself, and always seemed kind of sad. I was generally with the drunk happy people and didn't get to know him very well.
Last year a bunch of us got together at Yuba Lake and we were sitting around the fire when Shiree brought up the song, "Doin' the butt". We were all incredulous that such a song existed but this guy had the audacity to find a way to download it out there in the middle of nowhere on his Treo and play it for us. Score one for quiet guy!
I'm not sure how or when but we became familiar enough with one another that he continually shouted out to me "Brandon Flowers!" at the halloween party this past October. Which makes sense because I was dressed as Brandon Flowers and I AM Mr. Brightside. He cracked me up that night every time he said it and I've gotten to know him even more since then.
He's been through some rough shit and come out the other side a stronger person for it.
I don't recognize him as the same sad quiet guy from before. He's the one dispensing advice and helping others now, though he's still smart enough to know when he needs help himself. If we could only figure out a way to get him to understand why people find him interesting he'd be set.
This is thanks to Eric for being there right when I needed him.
